George Bennett, Sr.
George L Bennett, Sr. 76, of Staunton, died Thursday, March 20, 2008, at Augusta Medical Center, Fishersville.
Born June 29, 1941, in Pendleton County, WV, he was a son of the late Ira Bowman and Jane Tetes. On June 7, 1956 he was united in marriage with Audrey Mebblene Bennett and the couple shared a devoted union of more than 50 years. Mrs. Bennett passed in 2007.
Mr. Bennett was employed as a Geriatric Aide by Western State Hospital, for several years, until his retirement. He was a member of Mountain View Church of Christ. Mr. Bennett was the youngest of 17 children.
In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Bennett was preceded in death by an infant son; and a great grandson, Gilbert Cox.
He is survived by two sons, George L Bennett Jr., and his wife Ann of Millboro, VA and Ira Joseph Bennett of Atlanta, GA; three daughters, Audrey Hedrick and her husband Ray of New Hope, VA, Denise Garber and her husband Raymond, of Staunton and Susan Gutierrez and her husband Luis of California, 11 grandchildren, Caitlin, Jacob, Crystal, Amanda, Gabrielle, Jarod, Jennifer, Rachel, Laura, Ronald Jr., and Anna Marie;8 great grandchildren, Jacob, Lukas, Joseph, James, Wesley, Lawrence, Hannah, and Jordin.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:00 P.M., on Wednesday, March 26, 2008, at the Staunton Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes & Crematory.
