1970I have traced my
Cooper family back to
Valentine Cooper born 1765 died 1835 in
Hardy Co. WV. I am unable to find his parents but have several possibilities, maybe someone can help solve the puzzle.
The area
Valentine & family lived in was
Hampshire Co. VA before 1786 and
Fredrick Co. VA before 1754. Makes it hard to track records. Some of the possibilities:
Valentine
Cooper, born between 1720 - 1730, fought in the Indian wars with three brothers. Possibly the same one that died in
Wood Co. in 1810.
George
Cooper born 1729 married Mary
Rinehart, died 1809.
Job
Cooper born 1734, brother of George &
Valentine.
Jacob
Cooper born 1721 left will in
Fredrick Co. in 1758, 7 children.
Leonard
Cooper married Sarah
Brill, left will in
Fredrick Co. 1766.
Thomas
Cooper, left will in
Fredrick Co. 1785
There is also a
Fredrick Cooper (no dates) married Elizabeth Kyle, had children George,
Valentine Fredrick & others.
Some of these were in
Fredrick Co. MD in early to mid 1700's, by the mid to late 1700's were in the vicinity of
Cooper Mountain in what is now
Hardy Co. WV. Some lived for a time just across the border to the north in PA.
George and brothers owned a tannery on
Cooper Mountain, and many of the descendants of this family were tanners, saddlers, leather workers and shoe makers. This trade ran in my line for four generations, convincing me that there is a connection, that
Valentine is the son or grandson of one of these.
I have the descendants from
Valentine b. 1765 d. 1835 in
Hardy Co. down to my family. Does anyone have anything that will connect
Valentine to the
Cooper Mountain
Brothers?
