Carl L Scharnhorst
Carl Scharnhorst passed away peacefully on Monday, Jan. 12, 2009, in Kennewick, Wash., following a prolonged battle with declining health. He was born Jan. 24, 1933, in Genesee to Viola Blume Scharnhorst and Carl M. Scharnhorst. He was raised and went to school in Genesee.
Carl served as an Army combat engineer in the Korean War from 1951-1953 and was a farmer and carrier for the U.S. Postal Service. He married Betty Jean Rosenau on Jan. 18, 1956, and they had four children, Pamela, Kelly, Gordon and Howard. On May 25, 1979, Carl married DeLois M. Fleck and added three stepdaughters, Pamela, Brenda and Janet, to his family.
Carl was preceded in death by a son, Gordon Scharnhorst, and a grandson, Michael Kalmbach. He is survived by his wife, DeLois Scharnhorst; sister Helen Pittman and her husband, Don; sister Norma J. Spence and her husband, Bertie; former father- in-law and longtime friend, Gordon Rosenau; daughter Pamela Danz and her husband, Roger, and grandsons Luke and Paul Danz; daughter Kelly Kalmach and her husband, Steve, and granddaughter Morgan; son Howard Scharnhorst and granddaughter Sydney Pelletier; stepdaughter Pamela Sherman, grandson Matthew Mowery and his wife, Amanda, and great-grandchildren Dillon and Payton, granddaughter Cynthia Mowery and great-grandson Jace, and grandson Adam Sherman; stepdaughter Brenda Flesher and her husband, Mark, and grandson David LeMieux and his wife, Valerie, and great-granddaughter Claire, grandson Daniel Flesher and his wife, Chelsea, and granddaughters Jessica and Melissa Flesher, and grandson Andrew Flesher; and stepdaughter Janet DeMoret and her husband, Paul, and granddaughters Amanda and Alyssa DeMoret.
Carl will be missed by his family, his many friends and people who have been touched by his kindness and service over the years.
A memorial service was held Saturday, Jan. 17, at Country Christian Center, in Pasco, Wash. A graveside service will be held at a later date in Genesee.
