Will of Joseph Bennett
In the Name of God Amen, I Joseph Bennet of the county of Pendleton being sick and weak in Body but of Sound mind and disposing memory for which I thank God and calling to mind the uncertainty of human life and being desirous to dispose of all such worldly Estate as it hath pleased God to bless me with I give and bequeath the same in manner following this is to say: first, I desire that all my Just debts and funeral expences be paid after my decease
Secondly, After the payment of my debts and funeral expenses I give to my wife Hannah Bennet one third part of my Estate Both Real and personal for and during the term of her Natural life and after her decease I give the same to my Children herein aftermentioned to be divided among them and to be enjoyed by them forever..
Thirdly, I give my my three youngest sons Namely Jacob, John, and Elijah Bennet all the lands I now possess in the county of Pendleton and state of Virginia to be Equally Divided amonst them three to them and their heirs forever; also one sorrel colt and rifle gun to my son John to have and to hold forever - likewise to my youngest son Elijah one Dark Bay colt and rifle gun to have and hold to him forever. Fourthly and all the Rest of my Personal Estate of what nature or kind soever it may be not
herein particular Desposed of I desire may be Equally Divided among all my Children Equal share alike --
and lastly I do hereby constitute and appoint my friend Hannah Bennet and Isaac Coberly Executors of this my last will and testament hereby revoking all other or former will or testaments by me heretofore made in Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and fixed my seal this seventh day of May in the year one thousand eight hundred and eight
