Just tried to call you via cell phone, but know that Sundays can be a busy day (at least they are for me). I am going through my "Bonner" geneology file and her is some information that may interest you.

First of all, there is a Bonner family here in Richland that have ended up being good friends of ours. They claim that we are not related and that it is an entirely different family line. I am not certain of that, but I am not expert in doing geneology....I am trying. I am very excited for any help I can get from you.

I have a distant cousin name Judy Riccardi that found a family bible that had the following written in it:

LUTHER S. BONNER born July 12, 1880
CORA S. POTTS born July 2, 1882
Married Dec. 26, 1899

Children's names:

FOY H. BONER born Oct. 28, 1900
MYRTLE L. BONER born Sept. 25, 1905
JAMES M. BONER born Nov. 7, 1910
EUGENIA "ELLEN" BONER born Feb. 3, 1918
LUTHER DEAN BONNER born Feb. 12, 1920

Myrtle Boner married Allen M. Strine - Jan. 18, 1923
Luther Dean Bonner married Pricilla D. Wood - Nov. 9, 1940

Through Ancestry.com I was able to locate information regarding Luther Bonner through the 1900 census. Luther S. Bonner was 19 or 20 yrs. old and living in Dry Fork, Randolph County, West Virginia. His father was MARTIN BONNER (age 43) and his mother was MARTHA E. BONNER (age 42). The household members are listed as follows:
Martin Bonner
Martha E. Bonner
Luther Bonner-19
Betty A. Bonner-17
Charles D. Bonner-15
Harman Bonner-13
Minnie Bonner-10
Flarney Bonner-8
Mary B. Bonner-2

I have an Idaho Death Index 1911-51 listing Luther Bonner having died in 1928 in Weippe, Idaho on Dec. 18, 1928 when Luther Dean was only 8 yrs. old. We have been told all our lives that his sister was the one who raised him, I think Myrtle.
Luther's mother Cora Potts Bonner died in 1937 in Lewiston, Idaho on Jan. 16, 1937.

I have more information, but I will send this to see if we are on the same track. I look forward to talking to you and answer as many questions as I can regarding the family on Luther Dean's lineage.

Debbi,

Thanks for your quick response ... Great to hear from you!. Have you lived very long in Richland? When I was growing up I lived in Richland back in the 60’s ... I really loved it. I now live in Bellingham, teaching at one of the high schools here.

As far as your grandfather’s story goes, I hadn’t heard about it until someone wrote me this week with a link to the King5 story. After watching it and doing a little research I noted that your grandfather was born in Weippe ... Just like my dad, so I knew there must be a connection. I keep track of an extensive family tree that I put online just in case people have things for me to add or stories they have to share. So I have a lot of information regarding the migration of many families from West Virginia to Idaho in the last hundred and twenty years or so. My family on my dad’s side came from West Virginia to the Weippe area in the 1890’s and 1900’s. More on that later.

I am really interested to see if I have put Luther Bonner in the right place in the family file. According to my records and the research I did this week I had Luther Bonner as the son of Luther Salem Bonner and Cora Potts. I should have you confirm that before I go any farther. Is this right? If so, I’m wondering how much you know about the family tree before Luther Dean Bonner? What I am curious about is what happened to your family after Luther died ... Also, I’m really curious about what you know of why did Luther’s dad [Luther] die so young?

Lest I get ahead of myself I should let you respond on whether I have the correct family ties or not. I know you’re related to all the Bonner’s in that area ... I just have to be sure I’ve go the correct connection. I’m sure I can answer a lot of questions you might have about our West Virginia connections :o)

Thanks again,

Craig Snyder

Craig,
Thank you for the email! It was very nice of you to contact me. I would love to share information. I have some on the Bonner line back to West Virginia but I am missing some information. The firefighter Dave Peery (who was the one who inspired the KING News spot), has been in touch with me and we have shared some information regarding Luther Dean Bonner
This is so exciting for me, as I have always felt a connection to the grandfather that I never knew. For sure lets compare notes!

Debbi,

I saw online that you responded to the article on your grandfather, Firefighter Luther Bonner. I am a distant cousin of yours and try to maintain a family file keeping track of my connected family lines. I believe I have the proper connection to your family and would like to contact you to see if I have made the proper links. If you could contact me we could compare family lines -- I also would love to hear what happened to your family after it left the Weippe area of Idaho. My dad was born in Weippe also [in 1929].

Looking forward to hearing from you ...
