On Thursday, Oct. 30, 2014, our dear Michael Lynn, 67, went on to his next project in our heavenly kingdom after a sudden heart attack while helping a friend split and stack wood in Bigfork, Mont.
He was born Feb. 17, 1947, to Lloyd and Marilyn McCoy in Lewiston. He was raised in Lenore and in 1966 graduated from Lewiston High School, where he played football and was in the "Boys' L Club."
In July 1966, he joined the U.S. Navy as a machinist and served mainly in the Philippines until 1968. He was awarded with a National Defense Service Medal. He then got his degree in civil engineering after attending the Portland College of Technology.
In 1975, Michael met and married Heather Gleason in Lewiston and built a home there for his wife and stepsons, Brent and Derek; and their daughter, little lovey, Erin Brienne McCoy. They were later divorced.
He worked as a concrete specialist and completed numerous residential and commercial construction projects in Idaho, Washington, Nevada and Montana.
While working as a superintendent for Martel Construction on Cromwell Island, Mont., in the early 1990s, he met Jackie French. They were married in 2001 in Las Vegas after enjoying a NASCAR race. He gained two more stepsons, Levi and Jesse. He was a great dad/grandpa and helped coach their sports and tried not to miss any of their activities.
He built many of the townhouses around Harbor Village, Mont., when he worked for Rocky Mountain Recreational Inc., in Bigfork. After that, he started his own construction business and did mainly small projects around his Yellow Bay, Mont., neighborhood. He also worked very hard to improve and maintain his small organic orchard and hobby farm.
Mike was a member, and had been on the board of directors of the Yellow Bay Community Club. He loved to cook and brought many delicious dishes to the covered-dish meals at the YB Club House. He liked sports, especially baseball, football and NASCAR, gardening, playing cards, helping family and friends and working.
He is survived by his wife, Jackie; mother Marilyn Penland of Lewiston; daughter Erin McCoy-Matt Engle; grandson Jacob Engle of Shoreline, Wash.; sister Michelle (Angus) Fletcher of Albuquerque, N.M.; brothers Stanley (Carlene) McCoy of Lewiston and Steve McCoy of Martinez, Calif.; stepsons Brent Hassell and Derek (Beth) Katzenberger of Lewiston, Levi (Holly) Harrod of Missoula, Mont., and Jesse (Linsey) Harrod of Kalispell, Mont., mother-in-law June French of Bigfork, Mont.; brothers-in-law John (Jan) French of Otis, Ore., and Jim (Lori) French of Emblem, Wyo.; sister-in-law Billie (Roger) Murdoch of Dayton, Mont.; six stepgrandchildren; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents; ex-wife Heather; father Lloyd McCoy; stepfather Louie Penland; father-in-law Richard French; a stepgrandson; and many aunts and uncles.
Michael will be extremely missed and forever in our hearts, until we meet again.
A memorial to honor Mike will be at 4 p.m. Saturday at the Yellow Bay Community Club, with a covered-dish meal to follow.
