Ruth E. Joki
Ruth E. Joki, 85, of New Castle passed away the morning of Monday, April 14, 2014, at Jameson Hospital North. Born Feb. 25, 1929, in New Castle, she was a daughter of Rosario and Grace Casillo Scalzo. Ruth married Elmer A. Joki on Jan. 16, 1953. He preceded her in death on Aug. 29, 2004. She was the coordinator at the Jameson Hospital School of Nursing and was affectionately referred to as “house mother” by the nursing students. Ruth loved animals, caring for her cat and especially feeding the birds in her back yard. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Mrs. Joki was an active member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. Ruth will be remembered for her deep faith in God and by those whose lives she touched. She was always there to lend a helping hand in times of need to those whom she knew and loved. Survivors include a daughter and son-in law, Karen and Terry Boulden of New Castle; a son and daughter-in-law, Craig and Nadema Joki of New Castle; three brothers, George Scalzo and Joel Scalzo, both of New Castle, and Gary Scalzo of Mentor, Ohio; a sister, Mary Colella of New Castle; a sister-in-law, Josephine Scalzo of New Castle; three grandchildren, Dana Boulden, Jarod Boulden and Samantha Joki; a great-grandson, Bruce Boulden; and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 17, at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, 2429 Wilmington Road. A funeral service will be 10 a.m. Friday, April 18, at the funeral home. The Rev. Peggy Suhr-Barkley will officiate. Burial will be at Castle View Memorial Gardens. The obituary may be viewed and online condolences offered at www.cunninghamfh.com.
