Alma Louise Snyder Taylor, 81, a resident of Mill Creek, passed away at 12:10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2010, in Davis Memorial Hospital. She had been in declining health for the past several months, but death was sudden and unexpected.
She was born Aug. 26, 1929, at Elkwater, a daughter of the late Edward B. and Lillie Vallie Pudder Snyder.
On Sept. 29, 1951, at Mill Creek, she was married to James Ervin Taylor, who preceded her in death on Feb. 1, 1989.
Surviving are three daughters, Opal Atkinson and husband, Amos, of Beverly, Margaret Hamrick and husband, John, of Kerens and Alma Isabell Henline and companion, Richard McCrobie, of Mill Creek; five sons, Woodford Taylor and companion, Bonnie Woodford, of Huttonsville, Harry Taylor and wife, Cindy, of Ohio, Edward Taylor and companion, Maryann Chewning, of Mill Creek, Randall Taylor and wife, Patricia, of Mill Creek and Kenneth Taylor and ex-wife, Lisa Hess, Martinsburg; one stepson, James Ervin "Punky" Lambert and companion, Jackie Conrad, of Mill Creek; and daughter-in-law, Josephine Snyder of Huttonsville. Also surviving are two brothers, James Snyder of Elkins and George Snyder of Huttonsville; three sisters, Gracie Bell Currence of Junior, Alphie "Curly" Lutz and husband, Bill, of Ohio, and Genevieve Rexrode of Durbin; 18 grandchildren, six stepgrandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren; and a homemaker she liked dearly, Pamela "Muffy" Henline.
Also preceding her in death were one son, Robert Snyder; three brothers, Stanley, Wayne and Wilson Snyder; two sisters, Ruth Gear and Ruby Snyder; and one grandson, John Lee Hamrick Jr.
Mrs. Taylor had worked at Wamsley's farm at Valley Bend and later at Bata Shoe Co. She was a homemaker and a loving mother and grandmother to all her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and step-grandchildren. She loved to spend time with her family and friends, picnicking in the mountains, watching birds and deer hunting with her sons. She enjoyed riding through the mountains with her brothers and others who took her.
Friends may call from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. today at Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 19, from the funeral home chapel with Pastor Mike House officiating. Interment will follow in Jerusalem Cemetery near Mill Creek.
