Notes for Emerson “Slim” (Spouse 1)
2214Emerson "Slim" Harman, Mansfield, Ohio
Emerson “Slim” Harman passed away Friday morning, May 27, 2011 at his home following
a short illness.   He was 93.
Emerson was born February 13, 1918 to Andrew and Rebecca (Hinkle) Harman in
Upshur County, West Virginia.   Emerson was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served
overseas in Germany during World War II.   A long-time Mansfield resident, he moved to
Ohio in 1937.
Since his childhood, Emerson was an avid coon hunter and was even featured in
several articles when he continued his passion well into retirement.   He participated in
out-of-state night hunts and belonged to local kennel clubs.   Everyone knew to call “Slim”
if they had a pest, because he was the best nuisance-trapper in town.
A 30-year employee of General Motors, Emerson retired in 1986.   He was a member of
the Ashland Coon Hunters Club, the National Rifle Association, and was a lifetime member
of the American Legion.
Emerson is survived by a son David and Kim Harman of Perrysville; a step-daughter Kay
and Dwight Noel of Mansfield; four grandchildren, six step grandchildren, and three great
grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and a special friend Kathleen Franta.
He was preceded in death by his wife Betty J. Harman on August 20, 2001; sons John
Harman and Douglas Harman; a step daughter Penny Ferguson; three brothers and four
sisters.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, June 1, 2011 from 12 noon to 2 pm in the
Finefrock Chapel of the Marion Avenue Snyder Funeral Home where funeral service will
follow at 2 pm.   Burial will follow in Mansfield Memorial Park with military honors performed
by the Richland County Joint Veterans Burial Detail.
Contributions in Slim’s honor may be made to MedCentral Hospice through the funeral
home.
