Mary Frances Snyder, 93, a resident of Woodsboro Drive, Philippi, passed away on Wednesday, July 27, 2011, in Mansfield Place.
She was born Nov. 16, 1917, at Junior, a daughter of the late Howard Dawson and Hattie Price Cox.
She was united in marriage in October 1939 to B.E. "Junior" Snyder Jr. for 59 years, who preceded her in death April 28, 1998.
Surviving are one daughter, Mary Beth Mentzer of Richardson, Texas; two sons, B.E. "Ben" Snyder III and wife, Sharon, of Pataskala, Ohio, and Jon H. Snyder and wife, Peggy, of Charleston; three grandchildren, Anne Marie Snyder of Charleston and New York City, Christopher I. Mentzer and wife, LeeArica, of San Antonio, Texas, and Jennifer Mentzer McConaughy and husband, Todd, of Frisco, Texas; two great-grandchildren, Ava and Brooke McConaughy of Frisco, Texas.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Hugh F. Cox and William A. Cox; and three sisters, Christine Cox Wood, Dorothy Cox Proutty and Harriet Cox Myers.
Ms. Snyder graduated from Belington High School and attended Alderson Broaddus College. She was an honorary graduate of the School of Hard Knocks. She was a lifetime member of Crim Memorial Methodist Church where she provided flowers for the alter and worked many church dinners through the years.
She was active in many civic and social organizations. She belonged to Order of Eastern Star Chapter 41 C, Arktean P.E.O. where she was recently honored at the state convention as a Golden Girl for having been active for 50 years. She was also very active in the Philippi Garden Club. Flowers were her passion, and she was an active flower show judge all over the state for many years.
Friends will be received at Wright Funeral Home, 216 N. Walnut St. in Philippi on Sunday, July 31, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and on Monday from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m., the service hour with the Rev. Tim Bleigh officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Vernon Memorial Cemetery.
