Ezra Carl Pennington, 79, of the Lanesville community of Dry Fork departed this life Aug. 7, 2011, at the Hospice Care Regional Inpatient Center in Elkins surrounded by his family.
He was born July 29, 1932, on Bonner Mountain in Dry Fork, a son of the late Gordon and Clemence (Roy) Pennington. He was formerly married to Norma Jean Simmons.
Mr. Pennington is survived by two sons, John (Susie) Pennington and Dana (Marla) Pennington; one daughter, Tonya White and companion Frank Abbott; two brothers, George and Ronnie Pennington; four sisters, Beatrice Johnson, Faye Helmick, Janice Jones and Helen Arbogast; three granddaughters, Sarah Beth Pennington, Marissa Pennington and Emily Pennington; two great-grandchildren, Cameron and Lizzy; and a very special friend, Loretta Varner.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, John David Pennington.
Mr. Pennington had been employed by Canaan Valley Resort as a grounds keeper for the golf course and a groomer for the ski area. He retired after more than 30 years of service and many citations and awards.
Ezra was an avid hunter and fisherman, he loved the outdoors and spending time with his family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be sent to Hinkle Funeral Home, P.O. Box 168 Davis, West Virginia 26260.
Friends will be received at the Dry Fork Assembly of God Church on Tuesday, Aug. 9, 2011, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be on Wednesday, Aug. 10, at 1 p.m. at Dry Fork Assembly of God Church with the Rev. Ric Lewellen and Rev. Todd Rhodes officiating. Interment will follow in the Flanagan Memorial Cemetery, Lanesville. Hinkle Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
