Yes, John Thompson appears to have cornered the market on marrying women named Mahala Hinkle [or Henkle].
The first Mahala Hinkle was born abt 1821 in Pendleton County, a daughter of Esau Hinkle and Leah Harper. 
John Thompson married her on 17 Sep 1840 in Pendleton County.  They had Talitha Italia? Thompson, Hannah Elizabeth Thompson, and Jane Thompson [although one census lists her as James, a he].
Mahala died on 24 Jul 1860, of Diptheria, at age 39 in Pendleton County.  The death record states her husband's name as John Thompson, and her parents names as: Esau Hinkle and H. Lambert.  [But the only Esau Hinkle I found was married to Leah Harper].
John Thompson second married on 6 Apr 1870 to Mahala Caton, widow of Confederate Civil War soldier, Edward Caton of Highland Co., Virginia.  The Pendleton County marriage record with John Thompson states their ages of 51 and 40, both widowed, born in Pendleton, his parents names: Jno. & Julia Thompson, and her parents names: Abel & Phebe Henkle.
Mahala Hinkle Caton Thompson was born 19 Nov 1829, and as Esau Hinkle and Abel Hinkle were brothers [sons of Michael Hinkle and Sarah Judy] the two Mahala Hinkle's were first cousins, as well as John Thompson's wives. 
Mahala Hinkle Caton Thompson had one known child with John: Virginia Jennie Thompson was born in Jun 1879, listed in Pendleton County birth records.
Mahala Hinkle Caton Thompson died 14 Feb 1908 in Pendleton County Death Records. 
John was still living, with his great nephew, Jacob Kenny Thompson in 1910.
