In Memory of Alonzo Lawrence

The subject of this sketch was born at Macksville, June 11, 1866 and died at Lanesville, May 11, 1944 with heart failure and complications.
Mr. Lawrence had been in failing health for the past couple years and during the last year of his life he had been very ill and confined to his bed a great deal of the time. He suffered terribly with excruciating pain but despite his unusual severe suffering he bore it with good grace, and was waited upon and cared for by his wife and family. Medical aid was called and rendered from time to time but to no avail and the end came on a beautiful and sunny May morning.
He grew up and spent his entire life in this community save a short time he lived at Lanesville.
He spent a number of years on the farm of the late Riley Harman and on Guy Hedrick’s place. He was a very industrious hard working man.
It may be said of him, he was a kind husband, affectionate father and a good neighbor; held in high esteem by all who knew him.
He was married twice, first to Miss. Orpha Hinkel and to this union was born four children three living and one dead viz: Mrs. Clay Lambert, Arbovale, Mrs. C.A. Kisamore, Riverton and Mrs. Chas. Calvert, Passic, N.J.
His first wife having long since passed to the great beyond he was then married to Miss Rosetta Nelson, and to this union was born twelve children two having preceded him to the grave and ten living viz: Garry of Harman, Mrs. Carl Smith and Miss Annie Lawrence, Mouth of Seneca, Roscoe of Pennsburg, PA, Mrs. Clyde Summerfield of Cumberland, Mrs. Opie Thompson of Riverton and John, Guy, Dale and Gerledean at home with their mother.
The body was returned here May 12 to the home of Mr. And Mrs. Carl Smith’s and then funeral services were held at his home church at High Rock amid a large group of relatives and friends that assembled to pay homage and then he was tenderly laid to rest in the cemetery at B.P. Harman’s on Saturday May 13. The funeral director was H.L. Mott of Davis and the floral offering was very beautiful consisting of a happy blend of domestic and wild flowers.
To the widowed mother and children we extend the deepest sympathy of the community.
