Norma Jean Dolly "Smiley" Thompson, 71, a resident of Harman, departed this life Saturday morning Sept. 1, 2012, at the Hospice Care Regional Inpatient Center in Elkins. She had been in declining health for the last two years.
She was born Thursday, Aug. 14, 1941, at Whitmer, a daughter of the late John Arlington Dolly and Mary Evond Reed.
On March 7, 1959, at Oakland, Md., she was married to Orville Salem Thompson, who survives.

Also surviving are one son, Justin Ryan Thompson and wife, Courtney, of Whitmer; one daughter, Marcella "Doreen" Wilcox and husband, John, of Monroeton, Pa; three brothers, Hilbert Dolly and wife, Irene, of Elkins, Johnny and wife, Velma, of Ripley, and Jessie Dolly and wife, Carolyn, of Rich Mountain; one sister, Evond Smith of Gallipolis, Ohio; six grandchildren, Rusty, Ashley, Isaac, Jessica, Melissa and Stephen; nine great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death in 2005 is one daughter, Donna Lorraine Goff.
She attended the schools of Whitmer and Harman. She was a member of the Apostolic United Pentecostal Church of Whitmer; she enjoyed people, traveling and was a noted cook.
The family will receive friends at Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday Sept. 6. Final Rites will be conducted from the funeral home, Friday Sept. 7, 2012, at 12:30 p.m. Pastor Claude Chaney will officiate and interment will follow at the Laurel Hill Cemetery at Whitmer.
