Notes for Harriet “Anita” (Spouse 1)
Harriet “Anita” Bonner Cady, 86, Orofino
Harriet “Anita” Bonner Cady, 86, Orofino, was born Sept. 25, 1926 to Doc (Delbert) and Lula Bonner. Her family lived in Orofino, on a farm on Upper Fords Creek Road. She loved her family and the great times she had following her brother, Fairley, everywhere she could. He taught her to chop wood and shoot.
She learned to garden and milk the cow. They had a very good dog named Bob. She said they were poor, but they didn’t know it because her Mom made everything fun. She loved to sew and did not like to cook. She was taught about Jesus and believed.
When she graduated high school she went with friends to live in Portland, OR to support the war effort during WWII by working in the shipyards as a welder. Later, she attended school at Lewis Clark Normal School and then worked in the kitchen at a lumber camp. She met her future husband there.
She married R.D. “Budd” Cady on July 4, 1946, and they made their home first in Bonners Ferry and then in Sandpoint. They had three children, Vicki, David and Debra. She taught them about Jesus, how to cook, how to garden, the girls how to sew, and Debra and David how to chop wood.
The family moved to Orofino in 1959 and stayed. Budd got a job with Hollibaugh Construction and Anita got a job as a switchboard operator. Later she worked at State Hospital North until she retired.
She loved to stay at home, talk with friends who came to visit or on the phone, grow flowers and take care of all the stray cats that wandered up to her porch. She chopped her own wood up until about a month before she died. Every morning she brewed a pot of coffee and all who stopped by were welcome. Coffee at her house was an event appreciated by her daughter and son-in-law, visiting grandchildren, friends and more than one cat.
Then, one day, we arrived to find she had had a massive stroke. She never woke up completely and died on Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2012 at Sacred Heart Medical Center. She was 86 years old.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Budd Cady, her daughter and son-in-law Debra and Melvin Judd, and her son David Cady, her parents, sisters Ethelyn Grasser and Helen Martin, brother Fairley Bonner, brothers-in-law Albert Grasser, James Martin and Robert Spence.
She is survived by her daughter Vicki and son-in-law Jim O’Leary, sister Joyce Spence, brother David and sister-in-law Shirley Bonner, sister-in-law Sally Bonner, many nieces and nephews, grandchildren John (Nicole) Cady, Josh Cady, Brian Judd, Raina Judd, Heidi (Erik) Munoz, Patrick (Anna) O’Leary, Matthew (Janay) O’Leary, and Kevin (Jodi) O’Leary.
Her great-grandchildren are: Logan and Luke Cady, Brendon, Blake and Makenna Judd, P.J., Joey, Rachel and Jake Munoz, Emma, Elizabeth, Lily, and David O’Leary. All of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren have been taught about Jesus. This is joy and comfort to us as we say goodbye to her.
Services will be at the Orofino Tabernacle Church, 1839 Michigan Avenue, on Friday, Nov. 30, 2012 at 10:30 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, because she loved all the animals, donations may be made to the Clearwater Humane Society, P.O. Box 2063, Orofino ID 83544.
