Daniel, 85, born in Akron, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on December 20th. He served as a cook in the
U.S. Navy on the U.S.S. Keith DE-241 during World War II and continued cooking wonderful Italian food for family and friends. Dan was known around town for his sense of humor and was always ready to make people laugh. Dan and Lucy organized the first of many reunions of the USS Keith for Dan's shipmates that served our country with him. Dan retired from General Tire after 30 years of service. In addition to cooking, he had many hobbies including hunting, gardening, fishing and golf.

He is survived by Lucy (Paolucci), his wife of 61 years; their two daughters, Rita Barbieri (Frank) of Florida, and Nancy Crimaldi (Anthony) of Tallmadge; his sister, Madeline Lee (Thomas); six grandchildren, Stephen, David, Maria (and her husband Frank Toth), Phillip, Nicholas and Natalie (and her husband Ryan Paul); two great-grandchildren, Brandon and Elena, and many nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held TODAY, WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 22, at Hennessy Funeral Home (formerly Rossi), 552 N. Main St., Akron, from 3:30 to 7:30 p.m. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home with Father Joe Warner officiating. Burial will follow at Northlawn Memorial Gardens.
