Garnet LaVerne Bennett Cole, 78, former Weippe resident
Garnet Cole was born in Weippe on Aug. 5, 1935 to Earl and Willetta Bennett. She attended Weippe Schools and graduated as valedictorian from Weippe High School in 1953. She enjoyed playing sports (basketball/softball). Garnet also loved the outdoors and animals. She manned Brown’s Creek 100 foot lookout tower for two summers after high school, then went to the CPTA’s office where she was employed. She was also secretary to Orofino’s Mayor A.B. Curtis.
Garnet met and married a young forester, Quinten Cole, and moved to Arizona in 1956. She lived in Arizona andNew Mexico enjoying ranger station life for 20 years and raising three children: Earlene, Lance and Charlene Cole.
In 1978, the family moved to Russellville, AR with the U.S. Forest Service. The family also operated a Christmas Tree Farm in Lebanon, Mo. An unfortunate divorce came in 1995 and Garnet moved to Rogers, AR.
Garnet is survived by her daughter Earlene Cole and granddaughter Quintana Garcia of Union, MO.; her daughter Charlene Standridge, special son-in-law Gary Standridge, granddaughter Lauren Standridge of Springdale, AR and granddaughter Jamie Thomas her husband Jeremy Thomas and great granddaughter Avery Thomas of Stella, MO. She was preceded in death by her son Lance Cole of Winslow, Arizona. She is survived by his two children Dustin Cole and Dominique Cole of Winslow, AZ; and two great grandchildren Braedyn Cole and Brooklyn Cole.
Garnet was also preceded in death by her parents and her step-dad, Jasper Wyatt. Garnet is also survived by a sister, Barbara Martin, and brother-in-law, Everet Martin, of Weippe; niece Carrie Goodwin and her husband Rich Goodwin; nephew Kenneth Martin and wife Sue Martin ofClarkston, WA; as well as many grand nieces and grand nephews.
Garnet passed away on April 4, 2014 with the love of her family that she adored with all her heart. Garnet wants to be returned home with her ashes placed next to her beloved parents in the Weippe cemetery.
