123Family sources of the William Jordan line state that William had said that his father was a William Jordan who married a Sarah. It is believed that they were from Pendleton County. This is easy to believe considering how many marriages in this family are recorded in the Pendleton County Court House. At this point the connection to the Jordan's of the Bullpasture is not certain. They have been included in this book because it is believed that the connection exists, but unknown.
This family moved West to Idaho. There is a family reunion held there every year of the descendants of William Jordan and Elizabeth Carr. A number of their descendants moved further West into Oregon, Washington State, and California.



124Copying from the Randolph County History, Adonijah’s father, William Jordan, at one time owned 200 acres, 150 of which was improved.   One half of the town of Job, WV, was built on land formerly belonging to him.   His land was granted to Thomas B. Summerfield, 114 years before the Maxwell book was written.   Later it belonged to Soilder [sic] White.   Mr. Jordan was postmaster under Harrison.   His son, Albert Freeling, was postmaster under Cleveland and was also in the merchantile [sic] business for years at Job.

News on this family is always kind of spare and slow.   But the latest is that I have located a living male Jordan who is not a decendent of Adonijah, but of his brother, William (and yet another William--OMG)..he consented to be yDNA tested and

TADAAAA!

they match.   So we now know that we have the yDNA of William Jordan who married Elizabeth Carr.   Why is this important to me?   With the rumors of the two children before Adonijah belonging to Noah Ridenour, and the odd report that William's son Free was the son of Richard Johnson and Betty White, AND the fact that Adonijah was born only 3 months after William married Elizabeth Carr...well, let's just say I wanted to be sure.   There is nothing like busting your hump on a hard line only to find out that it isn't yours...you know?

So it doesn't bet me back any farther, but I am at least satisfied that I am working the right line.   Little things make a big difference when you don't get much information at all.

FYI,
While looking at early property taxes in Randolph County, I found a series of Jordans I did not previously know and just a year after my William shows up with property to tax   in 1845, Noah Ridenour turns up too.   There was also a Conrad Ridenour previously, but Noah was new.   The folowing year, there was only Conrad...no Noah.   Another year or two later Conrad left too.   So there was a Noah Ridenour in the area about the time William must have been courting Elizabeth.   And he did indeed disappear from the records.   Can this story be true???
