Rosella G. Snyder passed away Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2011, at Clearwater Valley Health and Rehabilitation in Orofino. She was 102.
She was born Feb. 16, 1908, in Kippen (near Reubens) to Carroll LeRoy Parkins and Minnie Erickson.
She moved from Cold Spring to Orofino around 1923, where she worked at Erickson's Palace of Sweets, which was a restaurant owned by her uncle. She also sold tickets at Rex Movie Theater and played piano for silent movies.
Rosella married Eldon Snyder June 5, 1927. He preceded her in death in 1989.
She and Eldon owned and operated Standard Oil Bulk Plant in Pierce until they purchased Snyder's men's clothing and sporting goods store in 1945. She worked at the store until she retired.
Rosella was a member of the Methodist Church, Daughters of the Nile, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and she was a charter member of the Orofino Golf Club. She was also a member of Eastern Star for more than 50 years.
She played bridge once a week for many years until she moved to Clearwater Rehabilitation center.
Surviving her are sons, Maurice Snyder and Elbert and his wife Angie Snyder, all of Orofino; two sisters, Vella Quillen and Vernice Sullivan, both of Lewiston; two grandsons, A. Craig Snyder of Lewiston and Thomas C. Snyder of Lebanon, OR; as well as three great and three great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband, she was also preceded in death by two brothers, Major Parkins and Edward Parkins; and a sister, Edna Parkins Johnson.
A memorial service was held Tuesday, Jan. 18 at Pine Hills Funeral Chapel in Orofino, with Rev. Hank Heschle of Orofino officiating. Burial took place at Orofino Riverside Cemetery.
Memorials may be made in Rosella's name to the charity of the donor's choice.

100th birthday open house Feb. 16 for long-time Orofino resident Rosella Snyder, a resident of Orofino since the 1920s, will be honored for her 100th birthday at an open house reception from 1 to 4 p. m. Saturday, Feb. 16 at the Veterans of Foreign Wars building in Orofino.
She was born near Reubens Feb. 16, 1908 to Cal and Minnie Erickson Parkins. She moved to Orofino in the mid-1920’s where she worked at the Palace of Sweets and also at the Rex Theatre.
Rosella married F. Eldon Snyder June 5, 1927. They built the Standard Oil Bulk plant near Pierce and operated it until 1946.
The couple then purchased a mens’ clothing store in Orofino and renamed it Snyder’s Men Clothing. They were later joined in the business by their two sons, Elbert and Maurice Snyder, and renamed the store Snyder’s Inc. The store was located on Johnson Ave in the building now occupied by the Flamingo.
Rosella’s husband Eldon died March 5, 1989.
Besides her two sons, Rosella has a daughter-in-law Angie Snyder, two grandsons, three great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Rosella has led an active life. She is a 50 year member of the Methodist Church and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, and Daughters of the Nile. She has been a long-time member of the VFW Auxiliary and the Clearwater Valley Hospital Auxiliary and still participates in the CVH annual Valentine Pie Social and card party.
As a member of the Orofino Golf Club she was runner-up at a golf tournament in Lewiston. She enjoys playing bridge and crossword puzzles.
Persons who have the good fortune to know Rosella are impressed with her youthful appearance, spirit and keen sense of humor.
