Twila Harman Mauzy, 94, a life-long resident of Harman, passed away Tuesday, April 19, 2011.
She was born Jan. 8, 1917, at Harman, a daughter of the late Simon P. and Nettie Snyder Harman.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis Mauzy, on Nov. 3, 1985.
Surviving are nephews and nieces, Harry J. (Reva) Harman of Canaan Valley, Barbara Sue Lambert of Brunswick, Maryland, Jean Harman of Elkins, John Harman of Burlington, North Carolina, Daniel (Amy) Harman of Frostburg, Maryland, Richard Harman of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Karen (Frank) Ewing of Deep Creek, Maryland, Judy Harman of Harman, Eva (Roger) Nicosia, Nokomis, Florida, Joan Teter of Seneca Rocks and Howard (Dot) Roy of Petersburg, Helen Bennett of Job; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
Also preceding her in death were three brother, Ellsworth S. Harman, Snyder S. Harman and Harry W. Harman; three sisters, Iva H. Shore, Carrie H. Roy and Tacy Harman; nephews, Blair Harman, Ronald Lambert, Carl Teter and Herbert Bennett; and one niece, Gretchen Harman.
Twila taught for many years in the Randolph County School System. She began her teaching career at Rich Mountain School in 1937. In 1946, she started teaching first grade at Harman School until she retired in 1972. She was an active member of the Harman Church of the Brethren having taught Sunday school classes. She thoroughly enjoyed being the pianist at the church and leading the congregation in singing. She was a member of the Harman Church of the Brethren Women's Fellowship, Lakes Auxiliary to Veteran of Foreign Wars Post 5781 and life member of the West Virginia Association of Retired School Employees. On Sundays, after church, she would say that she needed to decide who to visit that needed her to put a smile on their face. Twila was always there to lend a helping hand to people in need and loved telling about the Bible.
Friends will be received from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the Harman Church of the Brethren. Funeral services will be conducted Friday, April 22, at 1 p.m. at the church with the Rev. John Moyer officiating. Interment will follow in the Cooper Cemetery.
Hinkle Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
