In Memoriam
In sad but loving memoriam or our son, Burlin Jordan, who died February 1928.
A dear one from us is gone. A voice we loved is stilled. A place is vacant in our home that can never be filled. One by one the Lord will call us as our work on earth is done and as we cross the golden river, we shall meet one by one. Sleep on Burlin and take your rest. God called you home, he thought best, he knew your suffering so great and opened up the golden gate. Our hearts are sad and filled with pain, for one so dear, we will never see again. While his farm remain beneath us in this lonesome land, his soul has crossed the river and joined the angels band. We know you are waiting for us in the land so fair and bright, where the flowers bloom forever and the days are always bright.

Burlin died from typhoid fever in 1928. I called Elkins Memorial Gardens, which now cares for the old Elkins Oddfellow Cemetery records where Burlin is buried, and the lady I spoke to informed me that the original record books show that Burlin paid-in-full for 6 plots in 1928. (which is a Carr family plot and the records also showed that one of the plots is empty)
Does anyone know where William A Jordan is buried? His death certificate only states Elkins as his burial. I assumed that he would be buried with Hester but of course Hester is buried at the Oddfellows Cemetery in Flemington/Brownton. Also the odd thing about the location of Hester's grave is that there is a used plot right beside her but it is unmarked...and when I spoke to the lady whos husband cares for the records of the Flemington Cemetery, she informed me that they didnt start keeping records until just a few years ago...sigh
Nonetheless, I thought this was a beautiful poem about Burlin from his father and gives a little insight as to what William A was like as a person :)
