Michael,
We have to connect on our Lawson line. I am delighted to find someone else
who is working on this line. Here is a summary of what I have;
John Lawson b. ? supposedly in Scotland came to the US with unnamed brother.
This much has been passed down as family lore. His Children we had
documentation on--William M. m 1786 Frederick Co. VA Rebecca Grigsby (my
line), Theophilus m. 1804 Rebecca Hancock, Alexander m. 1808 Polly Carter,
Holzen m. 1823 Shenandoah Co., VA Hannah Griffith, John Jr. m. 1812
Shenandoah Co., VA Maria Lewin, Nancy m. John Kelly, Rebecca m. James Hancock
1800 Shenandoah Co., VA and Mary Ann m. William Kelly 1802 Shenandoah co., VA
(he
died 1854 Lewis Co., WV)
Theophilus had 2 sons that I know of, Elias m. Mary Elizabeth Teter 1822
Harrison Co., WV and John.
Son of John Sr., Alexander was the first to leave VA and come to Harrison Co
in 1812. In 1817, his father John and brother William went to Harrison Co.
In 1819 Theophilus went. All 4 were in the 1820 Harrison Co., WV census.
Perhaps your Theophilus is the unnamed brother of my John who came from
Scotland together. Wouldn't that be great?
My paternal grandmother was the last Lawson surname in my line. All of the
line that I have data on were in Harrison, Lewis and evenduatlly (sp?) Upshur
Co. This grandmother married John C. Collins whose family were all from
Ritchie and Dodderidge Co., WV. We are currently in FL for the winter but
leave early in the morning for our other home in the Chicago area. We will
be there by Tues nite. I will check my Ritchie Co. books and see what I can
find on your Lawsons.
Please let me know if you think this fits with any of your data. I look
forward to hearing from you.
Melinda Collins Larson (not a typo-I married a Norwegian!!!)
