I believe that your George could belong to the family of Lohrs from which I am descended. My ancestor was Peter Lohr who was born in Pennsylvania about 1750 in Little York, Berks County and died September 21, 1841 in Augusta County, Virginia. He married Catherine (one researcher believes her surname was Salzer).
The only children of theirs I am certain about are Mary, b. 1788, who married George Osborne, and Jacob Lohr, b. Shenandoah County, Virginia; m. Mary Foltz, daughter of Joshua Foltz and Miss Sulzer.
The only child of Jacob Lohr and Mary Foltz of which I have definite proof is Sarah E. Lohr, b. November 30, 1840, New Market, Virginia; d. November 02, 1921, Nestorville, Barbour County, West Virginia. She married William G. Nestor and they were the parents of eight children, among them my grandmother, Rosa Bell Nestor, b. 1872 in Nestorville; m. Rev. Millard Fillmore Pritchard October 12, 1887 in Nestorville.
I have Jacob Lohr's German bible, published in Philadelphia, and a eulogy to Sarah Lohr by her children in which they state that before her death she had visited some of her family, so I gather that most or all of her siblings had moved from New Market to Barbour County by that time.
A query posted by Melody Lohr on the Internet says that Peter and Catherine had children named Michael, John, Peter P., George, Jacob, Anna Christine, Mary, at least three others and maybe more. In view of his death date, I wonder if your George is the son of my ancestor, Jacob, rather than Peter. I, too, have seen the census records and just wish I had church or other records to definitely link George with my line. If you have any other information about the family, I would appreciate receiving it, as I am in the process of revising The Pritchard Family History which Heritage Press published February 1999. Since then, I have received quite a bit of additional information about hitherto unknown family members. The Lohr line is the one about which I know the least, although my cousin (from St. Marys, West Virginia) visited families by that name in Lohr, Germany several years ago and is convinced that everyone in this country by that surname name originated in that town.
Many thanks in advance for whatever clues you might have.
