Notes for Cheryl Lynn “Cherry” Boone
Cheryl Lynn Boone was born to Charles Eugene "Pat" Boone and Shirley Foley on July 7, 1954 at 7:41 A.M. in Denton, Texas. Her parents were expecting a boy but they were very young and would have enough time to try for a son. However, Pat and Shirley Boone are now proud parents of 4 girls and the grandparents of 15 grandchildren.
Cherry's father, Pat Boone, was the oldest son to Archie and Margaret Boone. Pat's father was the foreman of a family construction business and his mother was a registered nurse. His future wife, Shirley, was the oldest of three daughters to country singing star Red Foley and his wife, Eva, of the "Three Little Maids" a country - western sister trio.
Cherry's parents were married at the age of nineteen. They moved from Nashville, TN to Denton, TX where Pat enrolled in North Texas State College majoring in English. In 1955, Cherry's sister Linda Lee was born in New York City after Pat Boone had become a nationally known pop singer with 3 hit records. Those hit records followed Pat competing in and winning the Ted Mack Amateur Hour contest. However, by the time he actually won, Pat was not an amateur anymore, because he had signed a contract with Dot Records and his first recording was "Two Heart, Two Kisses".
