>I have a genealogy of the Snyder/Yeager lines from Va. to Ky. to Mo. that
was done as a "labor of love" by my cousin, Joseph Snyder, in 1976. It was
based on an earlier one done in 1911 by "Cousin Jim" Jones whose Snyder
ancestors stayed in Ky. According to the records that I have, there were
several generations where a child is named "John". The first one on my list
was born in 1720 in Spottsylvania County , married Mary Garr, and is the son
of Henry and Dorothy Snyder of the Germanna Colonists. Henry and Dorothy
also had a son named Phillip who may have had a child named John. [He does
not figure in my lineage so I don't know].
My John Snyder/Garr union produced John, Jr.,Ada and Michael, my ancestor
,who in turn had a son named John who married Malevia Yeager and moved to
Kentucky. If your John Snyder came from Va., try to find out about
John,Jr. [probably born in the 1750's] or see if Phillip Snyder may have
had a son named John.
The Snyder family did quite well in Kentucky, according to family tales. My
fraternal grandmother , Martha Katherine Snyder, died before I was born ,
but she had told family stories about burying the family silver and her
uncle hiding down in the well when the Union soldiers were in the vicinity.
Someone asked about the reason for going to Mo. I would guess that it was a
combination of being on the losing side in the war and the opportunities
that were there in and around "Possum Trot"[ that was the original name of
Kansas City, believe it or not!] .
I have a wealth of Snyder genealogy/ memorabilia BUT I am really stuck on
finding anything on Sarah Pence [born 9 Nov 1827, died 3 Apr 1913] who
married John Snyder[born10 Mar 1828, died 7Nov 1875] on 4Apr 1851 in
Columbus, Indiana. If anyone has any Pence info, please let me know through
my < suzees@yahoo.com> or answer here.
