Notes for Thomas P. Smith
middle name presumed to be Pritchard
In response to a query about the validity of the Pritchard data on this website, I have sent Don Norman an update on the line as it appears in my most recent family history. Although I do not have a third edition planned at the present, I would greatly appreciate receiving information about descendants of Thomas Pritchard, one of the early Ritchie County settlers, from those who have not contacted me to date. In addition, I would love additional information about Pritchard W. Smith and his descendants. He was the son of Thomas's sister, Elizabeth Pritchard (b. abt. 1777 in Loudoun County, VA) and John Smith. Their other known children were Thomas P. (presumed to be Pritchard) Smith, about whom nothing else is known, and Margaret Smith, who married Abraham Millar (some data received from two of her descendants). After the death of John Smith, Elizabeth married George Furbay. They had at least two children, James Furbay, (b. 1797, d. 1885) who married (1) Mary Ann Linway Boggess (b. 1800, d. 1838)in 1823. She died at age 38 leaving at least 8 children of whom only three are known: (1) George L. Furbay (Oct. 8, 1825) m. Lucinda Talikington; (2) James Hilary Furbay, the state senator, b. Oct. 18, 1827, m. Sarah J. McCoy, Oct. 17, 1855 in Marion County; (3) Millie A. Furbay (m. Alpheus Prichard (sic) Aug. 02, 1839 in Basnettville, WV.) The other child of Elizabeth Pritchard and George Furbay was Elizabeth Furbay, b. abt. 1805, m. Jeremiah Beatty. Additional information about these lines would be welcome.
