Roger Dale Snyder of Clarkston died of natural causes on his 53rd birthday at his residence Wednesday, July 4, 2007.
Roger was born July 4, 1954, in Lewiston to Floyd Snyder and Barbara Wells Snyder. Roger attended schools in Weippe and Orofino, graduating from Orofino High School in 1973. He then attended the University of Idaho and graduated from the Ogden School of Technology in Huntington Beach, Calif. After completing his schooling, he worked as a disc jockey at a local radio station in Lewiston.
Roger joined the Navy Seabees in 1975. He was trained as a steelworker, finishing second in his class. Roger was stationed in Gulfport, Miss.; Guantanamo Bay, Cuba; and Guam. An injury in Guam led to a lifelong disability. In 1979, Roger received an honorable discharge from the United States Navy.
Between the years of 1980 and 1996, Roger worked in construction and the logging industry and worked as a welder and a truck driver. After 1996, he was unable to continue working because his disability worsened. He spent the rest of his life fighting his disability.
Roger spent a good share of his later years in hospitals. He and his family appreciated the loving care given by the doctors and nurses who cared for him throughout his illness. Roger's friends and family were very important to him. He was always there for those needing a helping hand.
Roger enjoyed outdoor activities including camping, hunting and fishing. He loved playing his guitar and listening to music with his friends.
Roger is survived by his parents, Floyd and Barbara Wells Snyder of Lewiston; sister, Gwen and husband Vic Greenfield of Boise; niece, Kim Burton of Boise; nephew, Ted Burton of Chicago; nephew, Russell Burton, his wife Adria Burton, and their daughter Aleska Burton, all of Weiser, Idaho.
Services for Roger Snyder are under the direction of Malcom's Brower-Wann Funeral Home in Lewiston. A funeral service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday, July 9, at Malcom's Funeral Home with graveside service and military honors to follow at the Weippe Cemetery.
