Last Thursday Mr. Esau Nelson was killed by West Virginia Central train at Bretz. Mr. Nelson who lived in the old depot over there stepped out on the track to look about his wife whom he looked for on the long Blackfork Railroad bridge. He seemed not to hear the train so close to him, he being we are informed, a little hard hearing. The train struck him in the back and mangled him up badly. It was quite a sad accident. The man leaves a large family. -- "Parsons Advocate" March 26 1903


The widow of Esau Nelson, who was killed on the railroad March 19, started Monday for the home of her brother-in-law. C.F. Long took up collection of $8.25 and took her to Harman WV where her brother-in-law was waiting. She and children will have a home and be well cared for. -- "Parsons Advocate" April 2 1903
