Pre-War Profession:
Teacher, lawyer, politician.
War Service:
1861 organised Staunton Artillery, Capt., captured US arsenal at Harper's Ferry, First Manassas, organised the 1st Virginia Partisan Rangers, Jackson's Shenandoah Valley campaign, January 1863 Brig. Gen., commanded a cavalry brigade in the Gettysburg campaign, Early's Washington Raid, Shenandoah Valley campaign, contracted typhoid fever, prison duty.

Post War Career:
Mining developer.
