Anna M. Harman, a resident of Harman, passed away Oct. 11, 2010, at her home.
She was born Feb. 24, 1915, at Broadway, Virginia, the daughter of John C. and Ottie Showalter Myers.
She was married for 50 years to the late Snyder S. Harman.
She was a graduate of Broadway High School, Broadway, Virginia, and Bridgewater College, Bridgewater, Virginia, with the class of 1935. She taught in the Virginia public school system for several years and was a teacher at Harman High School for nearly 30 years. As well as being an educator, she was involved in many community activities. She was a member of the Harman Church of the Brethren and often served as delegate to the Annual Conference. She served as president of the Bridgewater College Alumni Association and was active on the board for several years. She served a term on the Randolph County Board of Education. During her retirement years, she traveled to Europe, the Middle East and South America, and continued to expand her education through advanced classes and seminars. Her interests included reading, music, poetry and quilting. During her career, she directed the glee club, drama club and was sponsor of Tri Hi Y. She also directed a community choir. She was a talented quilter.
Five children survive her, Dr. John S. Harman of Burlington, North Carolina, Dr. Dan Harman of Frostburg, Maryland, Dr. Richard S. Harman of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Karen Ewing of McHenry, Maryland, and Judy Harman of Harman. She is also survived by eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, as well as one sister, Dorothy Stafford of Bridgewater, Virginia; and one sister-in-law, Twila Harman Mauzy of Thomas.
A visitation will be at the Harman Church of the Brethren today from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. The funeral will be Thursday at 11 a.m., followed by burial in the Snyder Cemetery in Harman. Hinkle Funeral Home will be in charge of the arrangements.
