SPOKANE -- Wesley W. Snyder, age 70, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2007, after a short battle with cancer.
He was born Dec. 15, 1936, in Orofino. He married Phyllis A. Sutkus on March 31, 1960.
Wes was a loving husband, brother, father and grandfather who loved the outdoors -- growing tomatoes, fishing, hunting, camping, boating and spending quality time with his family. He spent his retirement years sharing with his grandchildren his love for the outdoors and his passion for life.
Wes grew up in Lewiston. He moved to Sitka, Alaska, in 1965, where he lived with his family until 1981. He worked in the Sitka Pulp Mill. In 1977 Wes won the Sitka Salmon Derby with a 55-pound, 3-ounce salmon, after many years of hard work trolling the open seas -- this was a proud moment in his life. He then moved to Union Beach, N.J., for a short period of time and then back to the Northwest, where he worked at Central Premix until he retired.
Wes is survived by his wife, Phyllis A. Snyder; brother, Keith and Sharon Snyder; sister, Twila and Jim Wilcut; children and their spouses: John and Carol Snyder, Nancy and John Lovatt, Steve and Angela Snyder, Pam Wise, Larry and Stephanie Snyder, Lynn and Larry Girard; 16 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 13, at Assumption Catholic Church 3624 W. Indian Trail, Spokane.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Hospice of Spokane.
