411Abraham B. Lantz was born on November 23, 1845 in Pendleton County, (W) Virginia. He was the son of Levi Lantz and Elizabeth (Ritenour) Lantz.
Abraham was of medium stature and had a fair complexion, dark eyes and light hair. He was 5’6” tall.
On December 1, 1863 in Pendleton Co., WV he became a private in Co. A of the 18th Virginia Cavalry. His older brother, John F. Lantz, also a private in Co. A of the 18th, had already seen action at Gettysburg. During Abraham’s enlistment the 18th saw action at New Market, Piedmont, Lynchburg, the second battle of Kernstown, the third battle of Winchester and Fisher’s Hill. At the conclusion of the War, Abraham Lantz signed an oath never again to wage war against the United States of America, and he was paroled on May 19, 1865 at Staunton, VA.
Following the war Abraham returned to a life of farming in Pendleton County, WV. In 1867 he married Martha Fidela Harold, who bore him nine children. During the early 1900’s Abraham Lantz worked as a day laborer in a lumber mill at Horton in Randolph Co., WV. He died on November 28, 1923 in Randolph Co., WV and was laid to rest in the Armentrout Cemetery near Whitmer, WV.

Abraham B. Lantz:
