Note: Samuel Hensley Jr. a son of Samuel Hensley Sr. and his wife Elizabeth, was born about 1705, probably in Richmond County, Virginia. He was named in his father's will to receive one heifer or stear of three years old. Since his two brothers, George and James were to receive all the residue of the estate after the decease of their mother, it may be assumed that Samuel was already becoming established in his livelihood.
His marriage to Martha Snell, a daughter of John Snell of Spotsylvania County, on the 3rd day of March, 1727, is of record. He, with his wife Martha and daughter Kathren were deeded 100 acres of land lying in St. George Parish, of Spotsylvania County, on the 3rd day of March, 1734.
Court and land records reveal that Samuel Hensely held interests in Orange County also, his name appears among the records there together with that of his wife Martha, in conjunction with that of William Hensley.
His will written the 7th day of January, 1765 was proved at a Spotsylvania County Court on the 5th day of August, 1765. In it, he named his wife Martha to receive all his estate for use during her lifetime, and after her decease to be divided between his two sons, James and John, and that they were to remain with their mother. His daughter Catey Estes ws named to receive the loan of a negro girl, Hannah, for her lifetime, and then go to his granddaughter Patty Estes.
The copy of a deed executed on the 7th day of September, 1731 whereby Samuel Hensley Jr. purchased 360 acres of land in Spotsylvania County, adjoining lands of Benjamin Porter, from whom his father purchased land in 1730, is included and is to follow page seventeen.
