Notes for Daniel B. Boone III
Notes for Mary Constance “Marie” (Spouse 1)
645Marie Constance Philibert was a native of Canada and a daughter of Gabriel Philibert and Francoise Mongrain, both of French descent. Her parents started from Canada to St. Louis, Missouri, and while on the way the wagon in which they were traveling was overturned, falling upon them. On October 18, 1818, both parents died from the effects of their injuries. Their children were as follows: Gabriel, Mary Ann, John, Joseph, Jean Baptiste, Marie Constance and Peter. All but Marie Constance were deceased by 1880. Marie Constance was born March 13, 1812, and was very young at the time of her parents' deaths. She was taken to St. Louis and was reared by her uncle Joseph Philibert and family who lived on the river bank at the foot of Washington Street. Her oldest brother Gabriel became a gunsmith and joined the Kaw Indian agency in Kansas. While visiting Gabriel, Marie Constance and Daniel Boone (III), met and were married on January 19, 1832 in Kansas City, Missouri. The marriage ceremony was performed by Rev. Thomas Johnson. They took up their residence on Section 4, Westport township, Jackson County Missouri, where Daniel had purchased a tract of land. This he later sold to his cousin, Boone Hays. They then moved to Section 20, Washington township, where they lived for the rest of their lives. Daniel’s chief occupation was farming, but he and Marie Constance identified with many of the events that go to make up the history of the early development of Jackson County. Daniel was also one of the California Argonauts of '49, who crossed the plains to the Pacific slope. Again, during the war, he visited California and Idaho. Marie Constance accompanied her husband on at least one of his trips west. She could relate many interesting incidents of life on the trail and on the frontier. She lived in Jackson county for over 70 years. Daniel died February 22, 1880. Marie Constance died July 13, 1904 at the age of 89.
