Joseph W. Nelson, aged 75 years, 3 months and 16 days, died June 26, 1928. Funeral services were held at the church at Riverton, Saturday, June 30, and the body was laid to rest in the family burying ground, on the home place in Timber Ridge.
The deceased is survived by one brother, Rev. E. S. Nelson, of Circleville, and three sisters, Mrs. Ellen Vandevender, of Circleville, Mrs. Jane McDonald of Macksville, and Mrs. C.C. Sheets, of Stokesville, Va.
Mr. Nelson was married to Martha A. Hedrick May 6, 1874; and to this union were born nine children. Those of the children who preceded their father in death were: Otterbein who died at the age of 18 years; Grover, who died at the age of two years; and Garnet who died in the service of his country in the World War.
The six children who survive are: Claude Nelson, Riverton, W. Va., Mrs. E. P. Ketterman, Diamond, O., Solon Nelson, Riverton, W. Va., Rev. M. W. Nelson, Circleville, W. Va., Gordon Nelson, Diamond, O., H. W. Nelson, Ruddle, W. Va. Thirty-three grand children and one great grand child also survive.
Mr. Nelson had been in declining health for several years but the immediate cause of his death was cerebral hemorrhage. (W.M.M.)
