Rites will be conducted Sunday at 1 p.m. in the Church of the Brethren here for William Perry Vandevender, 101, a civil war veteran and resident of Harman for 75 years, who died Wednesday afternoon at the home of his son Frank Vandevender. He had been a partial invalid the past two years.
Mr. Vandevender was born in Pendleton county, October 1, 1843, the son of Jacob and Eve (Nelson) Vandevender and was a retired farmer. His mother died at the age of 100. His wife, the late Mrs. Phoebia (Raines) Vandevender, died in 1932 at the age of 80.
A member of the Church of the Brethren 50 years, Mr. Vandevender is survived by two sons, Frank Vandevender, Harman with whom he lived for the past 16 years, and Walter Vandevender, Weippe, Idaho; four daughters, Mrs. Dorothy Bonner, also of Weippe; Mrs. Carrie Summerfield, Huntington, W.Va; Mrs. Annie Harper, Dry Fork, and Mrs. Dollie Smith, Harman; a brother, Lee Vandevender, Oceola, W. Va.; 42 grandchildren, 81 great grandchildren and six great great grandchildren.
