Nathan Smith Cooper, 64, of Kingwood, died on Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2012, at Preston Memorial Hospital.
Nathan was born July 24, 1948, in Harman, a son of the late Paul J. and Mary Jane (Snow) Cooper.
He was a 1967 graduate of Harman High School and a 1971 graduate of Glenville State College with a degree in Education. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Nathan retired in 2008 as an Engineer for the CSX Railroad after working 32 years, he was a member of the Mill Chapel United Brethren Church in Reedsville. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, farming and being outdoors.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Karen (Vance) Cooper; one son and spouse, Shawn and Maggie Cooper, of Elkins; one daughter and spouse, Melissa and Kurt Gillespie of Kingwood; the joys of his life, his grandchildren, Sydney Cooper and Malia Cooper; two brothers and spouses, Paul and JoAnn Cooper of Harman, Michael and Libby Cooper, of Petersburg; one brother-in-law, Leo Pennington of Kingwood; very special friends, Bill and Laura White of Kingwood; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Nancy Lou Pennington.
Family and friends may call at the Rotruck-Lobb Kingwood Chapel, 295 South Price Street, on Friday, Sept. 21, 2012, from 3-8 p.m., on Saturday, Sept. 22, 2012, and from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral from the funeral home chapel at 11 a.m. with Pastor Marshall Woods officiating. Interment will follow at the Maplewood Cemetery, Kingwood.
The family requests that memorial donations be made in Nathan's memory to the Mill Chapel United Brethren Church, P.O. Box 78, Reedsville, W.Va. 26547.
