Craig,

Sorry that it has taken so long for me to respond my 11 year-old brought home a virus from school and it really knocked me for a loop. I am continuing to upload data to the ancestry.com site as I find it. I was amazed that the Daniels\Brown side was so well documented. I am having the most trouble with my mothers side the Harlan\Gleason's. I made the assumption that since my grandmother Stila (Harlan) Gleason had such a vast knowledge of the family history it would be easy to research, oops on my part.

I am in the The Woodlands just north of Houston and up to the current economic situation, did project management for network builds and software development. I have a son, Clinton, that is just finishing 5th grade and he keeps me on my toes.

William L. Brown was my 2nd Great-Grandfather. Wanda is my grandmother, she married Svend Frederiksen. My dad is Clinton Frederiksen and he married Elaine Gleason. Everyone has been in the Orofino area until my generation, so I have some digging to do to find all of the info. Are you related to the Snyder's in Orofino? Fred Snyder married a Gleason.

Great to hear from you keep in touch, if I uncover anything interesting I will let you know.

Craig,

I have added you as a contributor on my tree and opened it so that you can see living people. You will now receive updates to everything I add and that Tracy is adding to the Snyder line.

BTW, I found the Obit for Buena Vista and it lists Amos as her brother, I know there are questions regarding her family. I will try to transcibe the doc and send it to you this weekend.

I also found docs on Lorenza's youngest daughter Anna Elizabeth. She first married a Cooper then married a Taplin in 1933, all of her children except Loda took the Taplin name. In 1930 she was living in Orofino and the census says divorced but in 1931 she gave birth to Allen Taplin(?). Both Allen and Daniel were killed in an accident in Alaska in 1975. Loda, the oldest, married a Wilfong when she was 14 and lived in Weippe, they divorced and she married a Wells and lived in Lapwai. Does your father have any recollection of this that can shed some light or clear things up? (The obituaries are attached to the individuals)

Let me know if there is information that needs to be added or corrected.

Jo

Jo,

Thanks for all of this!! Its an amazing amount of research. I’ll call my dad tomorrow and let him know about the information you’ve found.

As far as your question from your email before this, yes, I would love to have access to your tree on Ancestry and be notified of any updates. Your documentation of the settlers of the Cavendish-Teakean area sounds really cool – and difficult. Keep me informed when you get the chance.

Thanks again,

Craig

Craig,
Here are some of the notes I have transcribed to date, I am still gathering information and will clean this up and add it to the tree when completed. I have also found and already added several obituaries to the tree.

LIQUOR RAIDS AT OROFINO, WEIPPE
Three Men Arrested In Former and One In Latter By Federal Agents Madsen and Williams.
Three men were arrested at Orofino yesterday morning with a cache of 32 gallons of alleged moonshine whiskey and a fourth was taken at Weippe with a quart of purported whiskey in his possession. The arrests were made by Federal Prohibition Agents C. B. Madsen and O.R. Williams, who returned to Lewiston last night.
Those arrested at Orofino were: Amos Snyder, recently released from the Idaho penitentiary, Madsen said; James Kohncke and William McLean.
The officers raided Snyder’s home where 10 gallons of liquor were found. At the time of the raid McLean was purchasing a pint of liquor, according to the officers. Kohncke was arrested at a woodshed on the place and was allegedly standing guard over 22 gallons of liquor.
Bring Here Today
The men were placed in the Orofino jail and will be brought to Lewiston today to be arraigned before United States Commissioner J. J. LeFebre. They will be charged with possession and sale of whiskey and maintaining a nuisance, Madsen said.
The man arrested at Weippe was Fred Baker. He pleaded guilty to possession in Justice B. Jordan’s court. Sentence was deferred for 30 days pending an investigation.

Elk River Road Given High Rank
Orofino, Feb. 27. – The extension of the Elk River highway was placed in a position of greater importance than the Lewis-Clark highway in the eyes of this community Thursday when the commercial club voted to work for the completion of the Elk River extension rather than wait for some distant date when the Greer-Kamiah link will be constructed.
“There is no assurance that the road will ever be built,” said one speaker in discussing the Lewis-Clark Greer-Kamiah link. “Stretches of the road into the mountains would be of no use to the public until the road is built through to the Montana line, and even then there is no assurance that the link will ever be built.”
Held For Adultery.
Mrs. Leola Norris and Amos Snyder are being held to district court on bond of from $500 to $1,000 on a charge of adultery preferred by Paul Norris, brother of Mrs. Norris’ husband, the latter being in the Latah county jail on a liquor sentence. Snyder has a wife and several children living in this region.
