Notes for Vernon E. Snyder
Vernon E. SnyderVernon E. Snyder, 58, of Grangeville, passed away Feb. 13, 2014, at Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane.
He was born April 5, 1955, to Virginia L. and Vernon C. Snyder in Lewiston. He grew up in the Lewiston-Clarkston Valley and attended Lewiston High School before enlisting in the U.S. Marine Corps.
He spent much of his youth camping and traveling with friends and family and truly enjoyed the outdoors year-round. It was only fitting that, after being in the Marines and then working for a short time at Potlatch in Lewiston, he began working for Carrol and Virginia Adkison at Red River Hot Springs. He enjoyed working there for many years, during which he helped with construction and cooked delicious food. He also met his wife, Theasa A. Snyder, there and fell in love.
After their marriage, they moved back to Lewiston for a short time before moving to Nezperce to work for Dave and Janice Baldus. He enjoyed working for the Baldus family until he decided to move to Grangeville. Then, for a short time, he worked for Bruneel Tire, before being hired to work for Butch and Dorothy Walker at Walco Inc. Vern worked there for 27 years, and came to be great friends with those he worked with and with many people in the Grangeville community.
He wasn't all work, though, for he still continued with his passion for the outdoors. Every chance he had, he would go on hunting or fishing trips with close friends and family. He always seemed the happiest surrounded by the woods and streams of Idaho, no matter what the activity.
He was an outstanding fisherman, avid hunter, loving husband, caring father and a wonderful grandpa. He will be deeply missed by many dear friends and all of his family.
He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Theasa A. Snyder; his children and their spouses, Cody and Corrine Gordon of Weiser, Idaho, Jessica and Brian Adams, Lacey and Matthew Bybee, and Wyatt Fischer; and his grandchildren, Pyper Gordon, Oliver Adams, Gabriel and Isaiah Bybee, Tristen Dirschell, Jayden Fischer, Alyssa and Riley Fischer, Dalten Hulsey and Kathrin Fischer. He also leaves behind two brothers and their spouses, Bill and Loretta Snyder of Clarkston, and Tim and Linda Snyder of Alaska; three nephews, Jacob Snyder, Jared Snyder and Josh Snyder; two nieces, Jami Johnson and Kylee Weber; mothers and fathers-in-law Janie and Jim McCoy and John and Lillian Groom; and sisters and brothers-in-law Brit and Sarah Groom, Penny and Willard Stuivenga and children Rob and Teresa Groom and children, and Susie and Dion Heckman.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father and his sister, Shirley Johnson.
Vern requested there be no service or dinner to follow his passing, just keep him in your hearts. He asked to be cremated and have his ashes spread at Red River in the spring. He was a wonderful, hardworking man who touched the lives of those around him in so many ways. He shall be missed more than any words could ever say.
