Notes for Betty Jeanne “Jean” Rosenau
Betty Jean Salisbury, of Kennewick, Washington, passed away peacefully at her home on May 18, 2008. Betty was born on September 29, 1938, in Dayton, Washington. Her childhood and school days were spent in Lewiston and Genesee, Idaho with her parents Gordon and Marjorie Rosenau. Betty married Carl Scharnhorst on January 18, 1956 in Genesee, Idaho. The couple raised their four children in Genesee, Idaho until moving to the Columbia Basin in 1973.

Betty spent many years as a Postal Clerk and secretary for Bechtel at the Hanford site. Betty's most loved position was being a clerk at Wal-Mart where she enjoyed interacting with customers.

Betty was known for her generous smile and quick wit. She enjoyed a cup of coffee while visiting with friends and family. Betty was a wonderful cook, homemaker, mother, and loved to sew for her family. Betty loved oil painting and gave many to friends and family. Betty loved entertaining all with her organ and piano playing. Betty enjoyed her summers surrounded by her beautiful flowers she planted.

Betty was preceded in death by her son Gordon Scharnhorst in 1987, grandson Michael Kalmbach in 2002, her mom Marjorie Rosenau in 2004, her beloved cousin Marjorie Laursen and best friend Karen Moser.

Betty is survived by her children Pamela (Roger) Danz of Mesa, Washington, Kelly (Steve) Kalmbach of Kennewick, Washington and Howard Scharnhorst of Pasco, Washington. She is also survived by her father Gordon Rosenau of Kennewick, Washington; brother John (Becky) Rosenau of Corona, California and sister Frieda (Randy) Page of Basin City, Washington; grandchildren Luke Danz of Burbank, Washington, Paul Danz of Mesa, Washington, Morgan Kalmbach of Kennewick, Tony (Crystal) Kalmbach of Kennewick, Washington and Sydney Pelletier of Pasco, Washington; great grand-daughter Lily Kalmbach of Kennewick, Washington. She is also survived by many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and loving friends.

A Memorial Service will be Wednesday, May 28, 2008, at 2:00 p.m. at Country Christian Church located at 5500 Sagemoor Road, Pasco, Washington.

Carl L Scharnhorst
Carl Scharnhorst passed away peacefully on Monday, Jan. 12, 2009, in Kennewick, Wash., following a prolonged battle with declining health. He was born Jan. 24, 1933, in Genesee to Viola Blume Scharnhorst and Carl M. Scharnhorst. He was raised and went to school in Genesee.
Carl served as an Army combat engineer in the Korean War from 1951-1953 and was a farmer and carrier for the U.S. Postal Service. He married Betty Jean Rosenau on Jan. 18, 1956, and they had four children, Pamela, Kelly, Gordon and Howard. On May 25, 1979, Carl married DeLois M. Fleck and added three stepdaughters, Pamela, Brenda and Janet, to his family.
Carl was preceded in death by a son, Gordon Scharnhorst, and a grandson, Michael Kalmbach. He is survived by his wife, DeLois Scharnhorst; sister Helen Pittman and her husband, Don; sister Norma J. Spence and her husband, Bertie; former father- in-law and longtime friend, Gordon Rosenau; daughter Pamela Danz and her husband, Roger, and grandsons Luke and Paul Danz; daughter Kelly Kalmach and her husband, Steve, and granddaughter Morgan; son Howard Scharnhorst and granddaughter Sydney Pelletier; stepdaughter Pamela Sherman, grandson Matthew Mowery and his wife, Amanda, and great-grandchildren Dillon and Payton, granddaughter Cynthia Mowery and great-grandson Jace, and grandson Adam Sherman; stepdaughter Brenda Flesher and her husband, Mark, and grandson David LeMieux and his wife, Valerie, and great-granddaughter Claire, grandson Daniel Flesher and his wife, Chelsea, and granddaughters Jessica and Melissa Flesher, and grandson Andrew Flesher; and stepdaughter Janet DeMoret and her husband, Paul, and granddaughters Amanda and Alyssa DeMoret.
Carl will be missed by his family, his many friends and people who have been touched by his kindness and service over the years.
A memorial service was held Saturday, Jan. 17, at Country Christian Center, in Pasco, Wash. A graveside service will be held at a later date in Genesee.
