Notes for William Pritchard
5William Pritchard (Prichard) has been a puzzlement in the Thomas Pritchard Sr., but his sworn statement at George Furbay's estate hearing confirms that he was a son of Thomas Pritchard, Sr., rather than of William Christopher Pritchard who was killed in June 1777 in the Revolutionary War. He dropped the "t" in his surname after moving to Marion County.

Monongalia County, West Virginia 1776-1810 by Mary Davis Atkinson, 1972, p. 10. This William Pritchard is listed as the son of both Christopher William Pritchard (William Christopher Pritchard), who was killed in June 1777 in the Revolutionary War, and Thomas Pritchard, Sr. Additional confirmation that he was the son of Thomas is his role as administrator of Thomas Pritchard Sr.'s estate, at which time he purchased the child shares from each of Thomas Pritchard's children. See Allegany County records.
William Prichard appears in the Marion County, West Virginia census in 1850 and 1860. His ages are listed as 70 and 82, respectively.

8Thomas Pritchard, Sr. is not found in the Allegany County, Maryland 1810 census, but his youngest son, William Pritchard, is living in District 1. In his household are two females over 45. Thus, Thomas Pritchard Sr. may have died before that census is taken and his widow (Rachel) is living with william. He most definitely is dead by 1811 when William Prichard, administrator of his estate, makes oath in Allegany Co., Maryland that Thomas died intestate.
8Thomas Pritchard, Sr. [IV] and Rachel Davis Pritchard raised young William Pritchard who later dropped the “t” in his surname, as did John, the oldest son of Thomas Sr. [IV].

Christopher William (W.C.) probably was the son of Christopher Pritchard who received the Lord Fairfax grant in PrinceWilliam County and the brother of Thomas Pritchard Sr. This accounts forthe fact that he was brought up in the household of Thomas Pritchard Sr.and Rachel Davis Pritchard, and later was the adm. of Thomas Pritchard Sr.'s estate in Maryland.
Descendants of William Prichard have joined the DAR on records thatare conflicting, no fault of theirs but of the confusion in names,reversal of given and middle names of his father, and the dropped "t"after William went to Marion County.
