184Walter Summerfield, 88, a retired farmer of Rawley Springs, died Friday morning at his home.
He was born Sept. 16, 1884 at Harman, W. Va. and was the son of the late Vincent and Phoebe White Summerfield.
On Sept. 16, 1911, he married Pearl Fairburn, who died in 1961.
Mr. Summerfield spent his early life in Harman. He lived in Broadway for 13 years and moved to Rawley Springs 20 years ago. He had been a coal miner and a lumberman in early life and a farmer in more recent years.
He is survived by one foster son, Hayes Summerfield of Hambleton, W. Va.; five foster grandchildren, and several foster great grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Rawley Springs Mennonite Church by the Rev. Sanford L. Shank and the Rev. John F. Shank. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Robert P. Long, Norman Pennington, David E. Heatwole, Wilbur M. Rohrer, Byard E. Kniceley and Frank Bennett.
The body is at the Lindsey Harrisonburg Funeral Home where the family will receive friends 8-9 p.m. today.
Relatives will meet at the church 1:15 p.m. Sunday.

184Mrs Summerfield, 69, Dies at Home

Mrs. Pearlie C. Summerfield, 69, wife of Walter Summerfield, and a resident of Rawley
Spring died unexpectedly at 1:20 p.m. Wednesday at her home.
A daughter of the late Charlie and Katie Summerfield Fairburn, she was born on May 14,
1892 at Harman, W. Va. On Sept 16, 1911, she married Mr. Summerfield.
Mrs. Summerfield was a faithful member of the Rawley Springs Mennonite Church and took
an active part in church affairs.
Her husband is her only survivor. She was the surviving member of a family of five
children.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a. m. Friday from the Rawley Springs Mennonite
Church. The Rev. Ralph Heatwole will conduct the services assisted by the Rev. Olin
McDorman and burial will be in the adjacent cemetery.
The body now rests at the Lindsey Harrisonburg Funeral Home where it will remain until
Friday at 9:30 a.m. when it will be taken to the church.
The members of the family will receive friends at the funeral home this evening from eight
until nine o'clock.
Active pallbearers will be David E. Heatwole, Roy S. Bowman, Ben H. May, Enos Heatwole,
Berlin Kile, and Lawrence McDorman.
A brief service will be held at her late home at 10:15 Friday prior to leaving for the church.
Flowerbearers will be Mrs. Troy Pennington, Mrs. Loraine Pennington, Miss Charlene
Landis, Miss Donna Cook, Miss Geraldine Summerfield, Miss Pamela Thompson, Mis Joann
Pennington, and Mrs. Mark Earman.
