Norma Mellick passed away Tuesday, Sept. 14, 2010, at St. Mary's Hospital in Cottonwood. She was 73.
Norma was born to Guy and Arvilla Snyder in Orofino Dec. 12, 1936, and was raised in Enterprise, Ore. She went to college and studied art at Oregon State University in Corvallis.
She met and married Claude Stormes and they later moved to Portland, Ore., where they bore Vince Stormes and Amy Stormes-Lopez.
Norma lived life fully, traveling to many places, living in Hawaii and Mexico, but always returning to her birthplace here in Idaho, where she enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, mushroom and berry picking, and just camping and relaxing.
She was an independent, highly intelligent woman who was a passionate reader with a dry but sassy and fun sense of humor, with a mischievous gleam in her eye. She was a wonderful visual artist and writer, and enjoyed music and the performing arts. She had an open mind and accepted people as they are, so everyone who met her loved her. She lived a Zen-like lifestyle; the simple things made her happy. She was a cherished wife, mother and friend. She was an amazing woman and will be greatly missed.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Arvilla and Guy Snyder; and her brothers, Larry and Mike.
She is survived by her husband, Gene Mellick; children Vince Stormes and Amy Lopez; grandson Josh Bedard; and great-grandchildren Carmen, Glenn, Angel, Halen, Elizabeth and Daniel Bedard.
