Howard Ernest "Springie" Davis, 75, of Holly Meadows, near Parsons, died July 27, at Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown. He had been in declining health for one and one half years.

He was born March 27, 1926, at Elk, a son of the late Martin V. Bonner and Bell Bright. On Sept. 15, 1948, at Oakland, he was married to the former June Mae Teter who survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Vickie (and Ronnie) Lipscomb, Hendricks, Betty Thorne, Holly Meadows; three brothers, Calvin Bright, Baltimore, Ben (and Shirley) Bright, Hagerstown, MD, Van (and Phyliss) Davis, Hendricks; four sisters, Londa (and Mike) Bouman, Cresaptown, MD, Helena (and George) Deitz, Rainelle, Eva Moore, Cumberland, MD, Ellen (and Bob) Zukas, Baltimore; four grandchildren, Wesley and Joey Thorne, Sarah Merrilo and Sandy Tripanier; and four great grandchildren.

One brother, Nathan Bright, preceded him in death.

He attended the schools of Elk, was a veteran of world War II, having served with the US Army in the Pacific Theatre, was a former employee of the Monongahela Power Company, the C & P Telephone Company, D & W Truck Lines and retired from the WV Department of Highways as a heavy equipment operator. He was a former member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Friends were received at Barb-Greenlief Funeral Home where final rites were conducted July 31. The Rev. Eli Hostetler officiated and interment followed at the Bonner Cemetery at Dry Fork.
