682Pennington, Joseph Joshua, son of the late Henry and Virginia Pennington, was born in Randolph Co., W. Va., April 13, 1898; died Aug. 12, 1958; aged 60 y. 2m. 30 d. Death resulted from cancer of the stomach. In 1919 he married Elva Sheffler, who survives him. Also surviving are 11 children (Odis, Elkins, W. Va.; Mrs. Elsie Harper, McGaheysville, Va.; Mrs. Lula Hamilton and Joshua Jr., of Hanover, Pa.; Mrs. Bessie Varner, Dry Fork, W. Va.; Mrs. Annie Madison, Palm Beacher, Fla.; Homer and David, Hedgesville, W. Va.; Robert and Gordon, Ft. Bragg, N. C.; and Willard, at home), 35 grandchildren, and sister (Mrs. Texie Turner, Harman, W. Va.), and one brother (John, Rawley Springs, Va.). On June 15, 1958, he renewed his fellowship with the Lord, was re-baptized and received into the Mennonite Church. Funeral services were held at Harrisonburg, Va., in charge of M. J. Brunk and M.L. Blosser. Following the services at Harrisonburg, the body was removed for interment to near Harman, W. Va., where services were conducted by M. J. Brunk.

682Elva Ida Shaeffer Pennington, 87, of 431 1/2 Baltimore St., formerly of Falling Waters, W. Va., died at 9:40 am, Friday, Aug. 2, 1985 at her home. She was the wife of the late Joseph J. Pennington.
Born in Mount Solon, WV., she was the daughter of the late Jacob and Pameliar J. Harman Shaeffer.
She was a member of the Lanes Run Mennonite Church in Clear Springs, Md.
Surviving are four sons, Troy Pennington, Falling Waters, W. Va.; Samuel Pennington, Martinsburg, W. Va.; Joseph J. Pennington, Gettysburg RD 5; and Willard N. Pennington, Martinsburg, W. Va.; four daughters, Mrs. Leroy Madison, Hernando, Fla.; Bessie Varner, Dry Fork, W. Va.; Elsie Harper, Mount Crawford, Va. and Lula Hamilton, with whom she resided in Hanover; 59 grandchildren; 65 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter.
The service will be held at 11 am Monday at the McMullen Funeral Home in Bridgewater, Va., with her pastor, the Rev. Orville Martin officiating. Burial will be in Pennington Cemetery, Harman, W. Va.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 7 to 9 pm. Memorial contributions may be made to the Visiting Nurse Association of Hanover and Spring Grove, 217 Broadway, Hanover, 17331.
The Sauter Funeral Home, Spring Grove is in charge of local arrangements.
