1750John IV - Father was John III, and Mother was Mary (Foushee) Lewis. Upon Father's death, Mother married Samuel Eskridge.
There are no birth records for John IV; however, it is speculated that he was 8 years old whe n his father died, as he first acquired property on December 1, 1759. At that time his stepf ather, Samuel Eskridge,"delivers all the plantation formerly belonging to John Lewis (III) deceased - adjoining lands of ...............; also three slaves he bought from William Hughe tt's wife's thirds of John Lewis (II) deceased Estate and give 1 bed and furniture, 1 cow , 1 calf or Big with calf; 1 sow and pigs or Big with pig." This transaction was witnessed b y his uncle William Lewis and Lindsay Opie and recorded in court on December 3,1759.
