162Notes for Andrew Skidmore , Jr.:
In 1814 andrew enlisted for 6 months service in the 6th regiment, Virginia Militia. Andrew settled on a tract of land 3 miles below Sutton, which according to John D. Sutton he paid for by splitting and building a rail fence around the bottom of what is now the town of Sutton. It is said he was a man of extra ordinary strength and endurance and weighed 180 lbs. The tale is told of how he killed a yearling bear on Wolf Creek and carried it 7 miles home on his shoulders, along with his gun and knapsack, pausing only twice to rest. Andrew is buried in the Beall Cemetery, located between Sutton and Gasaway, Braxton Co., WV., where he is buried with several of his descendants.

iv.   Mary Polly Skidmore, born June 17, 1813 in Braxton Co., VA. (WV); died August 20, 1897.
v.   Ellen Skidmore, born November 24, 1815; died 1911.
vi.   Allen Skidmore, born January 27, 1821 in Braxton Co., VA. (WV); died November 05, 1883 in Braxton Co., VA. (WV).
vii.   James Skidmore, born August 06, 1828 in Braxton Co., VA. (WV); died April 07, 1895.
viii.   Sarah Skidmore. She married Levi Prince.
