Lewiston Tribune

Albert (Ab) Charles Hansen, of Asotin, passed away on Wednesday, April 20, 2011, from a heart attack. He was born Oct. 3, 1931, in Spokane, to John Hansen and Mary Kerr. The family moved to Weippe when Ab was 4.
Ab married Joann Schmid April 12, 1949. Ab and Joann had five children who they raised in the Headquarters area.
Ab went to work for Potlatch Corp.; he did all of the purchasing for all the camps, log yards, Cat and machine shops and everything else. Ab retired at 54, after working for Potlatch for 34 years and nine months. He worked briefly as a sawyer on a landing before being asked to set up a purchasing system for Weyerhauser Co. in Kamiah. He worked for them for six years and retired at the age of 65.
Ab loved his family and friends, and the Lord was the focal point of his family's life. He always greeted people with a smile and a joke. He loved to do things for people, especially for those whom he felt needed the extra help. Ab and Joann traveled around the world doing mission work. He loved to go hunting, fishing, camping with the family, buying and selling antiques, hiking and skiing.
He was preceded in death by his son, Chuck; his sister, Gladys Whitney; and brother Jack Hansen.
He is survived by his wife, Joann; sons Kim and his wife Yolande of Gig Harbor, Wash., Quinn Hansen of Clarkston, Craig and his wife Jeanne of Lewiston, Scott and his wife Cheri of Lewiston; daughter-in-law Lonna Hansen of Lewiston; sister Linda Hardin of Lewiston; sister-in-law Gertrude Hansen of Lewiston; 15 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Notes for Joann Karlyn (Spouse 1)
Joann K. Hansen, 79
Joann K. Hansen of Asotin passed away Sunday, Oct. 9, 2011, at Riverview Residential Care Center of a brain tumor. Joann was born Dec. 23, 1931, to Josef Schmid and Clara Pritchard in Fraser.

Josef went back to Germany and could not return because of the outbreak of World War II. Clara married the Rev. Emmett Bonner Feb. 1, 1934. Joann had five brothers, Emmett Lee, Tim, Terry, Jim and Philip. She also had three sisters, Joy, Mona and Willy Jo.
Albert Hansen and Joann were married April 2, 1949.

Through the years, she worked in the logging camps and worked in the office for Potlatch as a key-punch operator. She was a substitute teacher for area schools, and she taught piano lessons every morning that they lived in Headquarters. Joann loved her family and God with all of her heart, mind and soul.

Joann and Ab traveled all over the world helping as missionaries; their favorite place was in the Philippines. Joann was the person who people called when they needed prayer. It didn't matter what time of day that you needed prayer, she was always available. Joann held several positions in Aglow. Her love and compassion for women shined through whenever she found a woman in need.

Joann loved to be outdoors doing something. She loved to hunt, fish, go camping with her family, gardening and skiing. She was a great decorator, she loved to change the appearance of her home with various antiques and treasures from her children and grandchildren. She always tried to go to all of the grandkids' concerts and activities. Her grandkids called her Gigi.

Ab and Joann have five children whom they raised in the Headquarters area: Chuck, who is deceased, and his widow Lonna of Lewiston; Kim and his wife Yolanda of Gig Harbor, Wash.; Quinn Hansen of Clarkston; Craig and his wife Jeanne of Lewiston; and Scott and his wife Cheri of Lewiston. Ab and Joann have 15 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
