She attended Johnstown School and the Weippe School to the tenth grade. She married Vern Thornton May 13, 1933. He died Jan. 13, 1992.
Mrs. Thornton was a life-long resident of the Fraser community. She was born on her grandfather, John W. Snyder’s ranch. When she and Vern married, they lived at the Cyr Farm for a summer and then at Schmidt Mill for a short time. The couple then moved back to the Thornton farm and in 1944 moved to the Farence Place in the Big Canyon where they reared their family and farmed. After their nephew (living) Thornton was discharged from the service he came to live on the farm with Vern and Edna. He bacame partners with them on the farm in 1946. Mrs. Thornton was a housewife and farmed all her life.

OROFINO -- The funeral for Edna M. Thornton, a lifelong resident of Fraser, will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Pine Hills Funeral Chapel in Orofino. Burial will follow at the Fraser Cemetery near Weippe. The Rev. Don Blain of Weippe will officiate.
Thornton, 82, a homemaker, died of causes related to age at Clearwater Valley Hospital here.
She was born on her grandfather John W. Snyder's ranch at Fraser June 15, 1915, to Roy and Nola Snyder Cochrell.
She attended Johnstown and Weippe schools.
She married Vern Thornton May 13, 1933. They lived on the Cyr farm for a summer, then moved to the Schmidt mill for a short time. Then they moved to the Thornton farm.
In 1944 they moved to the Farence place in the Big Canyon, where they farmed and raised their family. Their nephew, Earl Thornton, came to live with them in 1940 and they raised him.
She was a homemaker and farmer all her life.
She was a longtime member of the Rebekah Lodge and was a 4-H leader in the 1950s and 1960s.
Her survivors include two sons, Carl W. Thornton of Headquarters and Lyle D. Thornton of Orofino; three daughters, Jean Bennett of Rainier, Ore., Mona K. Wolfe of Weippe and Donna R. Brown of Fraser; two brothers, Roy Cochrell of Weippe and Otis J. Cochrell of Bellevue, Wash.; a sister, Lennis Wilkins of Kamiah; 18 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Jan. 13, 1992; a brother; a son; and three grandchildren.
Viewing will be Friday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the funeral chapel.
