SARAH J. NELSON

561Sarah Jane Sponaugle was born at Circleville, W. Va., May 24 1856 and departed this life April 26, 1944 at the age of 87 years 11 months and two days.
She was the daughter of the late Isaac J. Nelson and his wife Susan Porter Nelson and was twice married. Her first husband was Noah Montoney. To this union was born one child: Jay Montony of Glady. W. Va. Her second husband was Adam Sponaugle who survives her. To this union were born 9 children as follows: Anna Belle, who departed this life in 1922, Lee Paris Sponaugle of Davis, W. Va., John A. Sponaugle of Circleville with whom she made her home along with her husband, W. C. Sponaugle of Elkins, Adam Zola Sponaugle of Grafton, Mrs. Fannie Lambert of Wymer, Mrs. Martha Warner of Circleville, and Mrs. Mona Judy of Franklin and Louvery who died in 1904.
She is survived by two living sisters: Hestor Jordon of Bear Mountain and Roxie Mallow of Circleville. One haft-sister survives: Martha S. Bennett of Brandywine.
She leaves 54 grand children ?? ( can't read ) great grandchildren.
Some forty years ago she became a Christian and united with the Methodist Church to which she remained faithful till the end.
She was always a good woman to help those in need and to share with others. She was an excellent person to assist sick people whom she gladly visited. All in All she was one of those busy women of whom might be truthfully said, "She went about doing good to others." Now she is gone into the world of spirits to await the coming of her loved ones and to rest in peace with those gone before.
She and her second husband Adam Sponaugle had the pleasure of living together for 63 years.
Her funeral was preached by Rev. ? L. Bennett, assisted by her pastor, at the home of her son, John Sponaugle with whom she lived, being the home place of her father, Isaac J. Nelson and her home place. Her body was then laid to rest in the Community Cemetery overlooking her home.
